I was listening to my iPod playlist labeled “DEPRESSION.” It’s mostly oldies songs, but recently, I added a fairly new song to the neighborhood.
So now living right next to each other, are the songs “I Feel Better” by Hot Chip and “Lonely Teardrops” by Jackie Wilson. Two totally different songs that instill similar feelings within me (Depression? I don’t know).

I really like both of the songs, even though one is very studio-engineered and electronic and the other is not. As “I Feel Better” ended and Jackie Wilson’s voice started up, I couldn’t help butw onder if Wilson were alive if he’d appreciate any of the music of today or if it would be too weird to get the message.
Then I wonder if that’s what my problem is. Could I be a genre that doesn’t yet exist?
