I was reading a magazine that called the new movie The Winning Season, starring Sam Rockwell, an original and unique story about a “has-been coach who is given a shot at redemption when he’s asked to run his local high school’s girls basketball team.”
Original and unique?
Sounds EXACTLY like a movie made just four years ago, starring my acting hero, Bruce Dern.
It’s called Believe in Me, which according to its official website is a story about a basketball coach who “gets the opportunity of a lifetime, coaching a girls basketball team. Getting the girls to believe in themselves is half the job — finally believing in himself is the rest.”
In other words, this coach is going to get a shot at redemption.
What I want now is redemption from the idiot journalist who calls this new movie “original and unique.” How can you call yourself a movie critic without maintaining a hyperactive knowledge of Bruce Dern’s filmography?
Send that reporter to the showers.
