Rowengartner to Cubs: “Give Me a Chance.”

With the recent news of injuries plaguing the Chicago Cubs pitching staff, former reliever Henry Rowengartner offered his services to the ailing bullpen Friday.

“All Lou has to do is say the word, and I’m there,” Rowengartner, a free agent since 1993 told Chicago personality Mac Diamond on “Mac Diamond’s Sports Chat.”

Baseball fans worldwide know of Rowengartner’s legendary story. At the age of 12, he clumsily tripped on a baseball and broke his arm. After his tendons healed a little too tight, he was blessed with pitching skills of major league proportion.

Before he knew it, Rowengartner was picked up by the Cubs and quickly became their go-to closer. In an ironic twist of fate, Rowengartner reinjured his arm on the last day of the regular season in 1993, but still managed to lead the Cubs to their first World Series since 1908.

The Cubs have not won a World Series since that year and there are many fans who blame the 15-year drought on “The Rowengartner Curse.”

“The Cubs have not won a World Series since I was on the team. And they won’t win until I return,” Rowengartner explained.

While some are critical of such superstitions, others believe that Rowengartner does make a compelling argument.

Rowengartner admits that his fastball has never been the same since that magical season, but he promises that he’s got plenty of tricks up his sleeve to help the Cubs reclaim the World Series title.

“My floater pitch is still unhittable,” he insisted, inviting Mac Diamond out to the field to prove it.
